Learning takes place everywhere, in and out of the classroom, and we seize every opportunity to nurture a genuine love of learning. With specialist subject teachers and small class sizes, our pupils are supported to thrive, grow in confidence and leave each day feeling that it truly has been their best yet.
This approach has recently been recognised by the Independent Schools Inspectorate, where St Ives was awarded a ‘Significant Strength’ for the quality of our curriculum. Inspectors described our curriculum as “highly sophisticated” and “skilfully interwoven across all subjects”, providing “high-quality, innovative lessons that challenge and inspire pupils”.
They also noted that our learning experiences are “artfully aligned” and rooted in “authentic real-world application”, enabling pupils to develop responsibility for their own learning and apply their knowledge “with high levels of skill and confidence”.
Our pupils leave St Ives exceptionally well prepared for the next stage of their education, with an outstanding record of securing places at their first-choice senior schools. Roughly 80% of pupils are awarded scholarships to leading independent schools including Guildford High School, Churcher’s College, St Catherine’s School, Frensham Heights and Prior’s Field School.
There is no single secret to our success. It lies in the combination of dedicated staff, small class sizes and a deep commitment to pastoral care. Wellbeing sits at the heart of everything we do, something also recognised by inspectors, who highlighted the way leaders “prioritise the wellbeing and experience of pupils” and create a “secure and happy environment” in which children flourish.
But the best way to truly understand what makes St Ives so special is to experience it for yourself. Join us at one of our Open Mornings, take part in a Forest Fun session, or arrange a personal tour – we would be delighted to welcome you.

Set within eight acres of beautiful grounds on the edge of Haslemere, St Ives provides children with the space and freedom to learn, play and explore. Our stunning outdoor environment is an extension of the classroom, offering endless opportunities for discovery, creativity and adventure.
From our woodland Forest School and nature areas to expansive playing fields and outdoor learning spaces, pupils benefit from daily access to the natural world. Whether building dens, taking part in outdoor science investigations, developing teamwork skills or enjoying sport, children are encouraged to be active, curious and connected to their surroundings.
The grounds play a vital role in supporting wellbeing, helping children to develop confidence, resilience and a love of the outdoors. They also provide the perfect setting for the many enrichment activities, performances, events and celebrations that make life at St Ives so special.
It is a rare and treasured environment—one that combines the tranquillity of the countryside with the convenience of being just a short walk from Haslemere town centre.
St Ives is proud to be part of United Learning, one of the UK's leading educational charities, which brings together independent schools and academies across the country. United Learning's mission is simple: to bring out the best in every child, helping pupils to achieve more than they ever thought possible.
Being part of United Learning provides valuable opportunities for both pupils and staff. Through collaboration with schools across the group, we benefit from shared expertise, professional development, innovative teaching practices and a commitment to continuous improvement. While every school within the group retains its own unique character, we are united by a shared belief in the power of education to transform lives.
As part of the United Learning family, St Ives enjoys a close partnership with Guildford High School, one of the country's leading independent schools. This relationship creates exciting opportunities for our pupils and families, including a seamless transition pathway for eligible St Ives pupils, alongside opportunities for collaboration, enrichment and the sharing of educational excellence.
Together, these partnerships strengthen the educational experience we offer, ensuring our pupils benefit from the personalised care and nurturing environment of a small prep school, combined with access to the expertise, opportunities and connections of a wider educational community.
